| thats sucks man. are you going to have to get a new rod from that little bit of scaring? or can you just put some new bearings in it? also, i wonder what caused this. | |

| The rod must be replaced, these type of rods do not have inserts bearings and new Babbitt must be poured. The fact that it was babbitt was the only thing that saved the crank journal, if it had insert bearings which you can get for these old cars I would have a lot more expense to deal with. I guess that's why the old timers shun inserted bearings. If all goes well putting back together I should be back on the road this weekend! Having said that I am great at pulling things apart, now putting it back together....well that's a whole new ball game.

| lol putting things back together are never as fun and ripping them apart, or breaking them.... but on a serious note, where do you even go about finding parts for something like that? I thought it was a pain in the ass to find parts for my 86 Civic | |

| No problem finding parts at all, there are numerous Model A suppliers. If you want to spend the money you could build a complete car from the parts suppliers. The Ford Model A and Ford Model T parts industry is very big they make or refurbish everything. Snyder's Model A parts is in Ohio, if I order before 1:00 PM it is on my porch the next day | |

| Replaced bad rod and check clearance on the 3 remaining rods. Clearance was .0015 on all 3 rods which means there has been no wear in 10000 miles. I took a drive tonight and put on nearly a 100 miles on the ole girl and it is running and sounding great, I'm declaring it fit for duty | |

Thanks, I only worked on it 3 or 4 hours a day and had five days in it.....I spent most of that time on the phone asking questions and looking for my tools. | |

| Bringing a post back from the dead..this is the first I've heard about babbitts. That being said, we have a motor than junked the bearings and the journals in the heads. The heads obviously don't accept bearings like you're saying about your crank journals (if I'm understanding all this right). The heads have a lot of time and work in them and would love to be able to reuse them. Can we have new "babbitt" poured in the cam journals? Also, if that is how it works, who does this kind of work? | |

There are people who say they can pour babbitt and than there are people who can pour babbitt. It is becoming a lost art and the only good one I know for sue is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I don't know his phone number off hand but if you are interested I will try and find it. He pours babbitt for Model A engines and use to do the rods. Can he help you? I don't know but you could talk to him and see if he can. PM me for Phone number.
