PostSubject: Gixxer's 04 PSM WRX   Gixxer's 04 PSM WRX I_icon_minitimeThu Sep 01, 2011 12:07 am

Just realized that I did not have a build thread for my WRX on here but had one for the G35x and the GSXR. So here is a copy and paste so you guys can see how it got to where it is.

When I bought it had 54k with these mods:

* Tokico D-specs
* STi Springs
* 3" TBE
* Tinted Tails & Cleared Headlights
* Tripillar Gauges - Boost, Volts and Narrowband (Not hooked up b/c it doesn't work on WRX right)
* STi splitters

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Here are some pics when I bought it in August of 08 after I cleaned it up.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

First thing I bought was an Access Port b/c it was running extremely rich. That fixed that problem and made it feel like an entire different car.

Bought an 7" Panasonic In Dash DVD player
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Put a new magnaflow muffler on b/c I hated that dual tip one
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Got some 17" MB weapon wheels wrapped in 235/45 Falken FK452 that were suppose to be gunmetal but kinda had a blue tint to them. Also bought an STi scoop and put 35% tint on the windows, 20% on the back and 5% strip across the front.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Debadged the front grille so the entire car is now debadged.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

New Dead Pedal to match the others

SPT Intake w/heat shield

Front and Rear Strut Bars
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Epic Engineering Springs
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I put a pop can under the bumper to give an idea of how it sits. I know its not slammed but it is exactly what I was looking for. It still rides really nice for a DD and it handles much better.

got some new gauges
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

17x8 Rota Gforces wrapped in 245/40 Falken 452s
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

g/f got me a momo shifter for xmas
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

3/20/2011
finally put my SPT heat shield on.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

got some parts...
16" OEM WRX wheels powdercoated black but im going to respray them
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Forester Suspension
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Now I just need to order tires...

before paint:

after:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

and with the all terrains!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Driver side lifted and passenger side lowered haha
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Got the passenger side done today in less than 2.5 hours but yesterday was a different story. Wasn't too bad except for some seized bolts and getting the struts compressed enough to fit.

UR Rally Armor Mud Flaps came in:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

These were expensive as hell but the kit was nice and used factory holes.

$20 backup camera

Thanks...Got to love all the interchangeable parts of a subaru. Those struts/springs only cost me $65 and only thing else I had to buy was forester rear trailing arm brackets for $45 shipped. Those tires were the most expensive part at $500. I can't wait to test it out in some deep snow this winter!

Well the install of all the parts went just fine then I ran into some issues:

Could not get my AccessPort to send the map my tuner sent me to my car. Long story short I had to buy the new v2 AP to get my basemap on. Cobb sent me the wrong one then I had to wait for the right one just to get my car running.

Started the car and still had an exhaust leak. First leak was the up pipe to turbo but the new gasket fixed that. Thought it was the manifold to uppipe gasket but ended up being a hole in my up pipe. Ordered a new up pipe today and should be here Saturday if not Monday. Once I get that installed I can start data logging with my v2 AP and send them to my tuner. Then hopefully soon I will be able to go get dyno tuned and all this money and time will pay off. Hoping for somewhere close to 290awhp and 20psi!

Here are some pics from the build though:

Got my last part installed today before I get tuned!
Grimmspeed Uppipe with flex. Awesome piece and very good quality!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

No more exhaust leaks and it sounds so much better now. Going to do some data logs tomorrow and send them to my tuner then going to get tuned Monday!

My old one was leaking at that EGT bung and in the flex. Also had some cracked welds. Found out it has been on the car since 2004 when the car only had 5k on it.

Went and got tuned last week and @ 19 PSI it made 263whp & 241wtq. The dyno reads low so with his correction factor the car made 299whp & 275wtq. The car is running great! I would recommend Nate @ TPG Tuning to anyone. Same goes for Jason @ J&S Dyno but he has Nate do his AccesPort Tunes.

My friend Zach and I took the forester suspension off, put the dspecs with epic springs on, replaced the trailing arm brackets, swapped wheels, put sideskirts and sti splitters on in under 4 hours today. Took it for a test drive and was a blast. First time its been lowered since my turbo upgrade.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It will be a little lower then that once the springs settle back down since they have been off the car for about a year.

Ya its a completely different machine. The body roll is gone and handles awesome. Also its a good bit quicker due to smaller/lighter wheels and tires. I can't wait to get my eibach kit in but its on backorder and wont be shipped until May 2nd! F & R 22mm sways. The rear is adjustable and comes with bushings and endlinks. I sold the lift with the tires so its staying like this.

I think the Evo sits an inch or so too high stock, I can't imagine driving on the wagon suspension. Must be a blast to drive now that it's "right"!

lol it was fun driving it lifted but I definitely like it better lowered. Some people hated it lifted and others liked it. All kinds of people came up to me and asked me how I lifted it.

Got some new winter wheels for the wrx that have summer tires on them that I'm going to use for Auto-X this summer then put some all seasons on for winter. They were in awful shape when I got them but I got them really cheap. The guy used them on the track and never cleaned them so they had track pad brake dust caked on.
When I got them and he said he tried to clean them lol
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Painted
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Then I traded my 17x8 Gforces for 18x8.5 Dforces. They are hyperblack with polished lips but I'm not really digging the color so I'm thinking about powdercoating them. Couldn't pass up the deal for the wheels I wanted though. Straight up trade for these wheels/tires that have less than 4k on them.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Waiting for my Eibach sway bar kit to get here but is backordered but I'm going to wait b/c the price is right. Front & Rear 22mm solid sways, endlinks and bushings.

been a while since I updated this. Those dforces are long gone and the sways were put on but they are coming back off b/c its STi swap time!

Last time home as a WRX
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

George got a lot done before I got off work so props to him. The STi is completely stripped besides the dash, IC water tank and wiring. Going to leave the wiring on the STi until we are ready to put it in my wrx. Tomorrow going to start stripping the WRX. Took a lot of reference pics but I'm not going to post them all.

$1000 more then a STi 6 speed from the dealer... It only has 17k miles and has $20k+ in suspension parts!

STi rear end is in the WRX and got some other parts off. Tomorrow the wrx motor and trans is coming out.
