Microsoft's "Project Detroit" '67 Mustang

n case anyone was worried that people don't already spend enough time behind the wheel twiddling with their devices, Microsoft has unveiled Project Detroit, "a concept car created to inspire developers to think about building apps and automotive technologies of the future." Great, now even classic-car owners can be glued to a screen wherever they go, with infotainment technologies including Xbox 360, Windows Phone, Bing, and Ford Sync beamed into the car through Microsoft's "connected-device scenarios" includes. The fastback Mustang was built in collaboration with Ryan Friedlinghaus of West Coast Customs fame. My thought is....why ruin a classic? Don't get me wrong, I love technology, but it has no place in classic muscle. I like West Coast Customs but most of their designs really aren't that innovative. Just a lot of tv screens and mobile audio and it done. I think Microsoft has a long way to go for car technologies. Just look at all the problems with Sync!

I see why they did this, mainly to encourage builders to use new technology. But you think they would have done it in a new car, not the classic.


Problems with Microsoft are always easy to fix. Any time your car's speedo locks up, or radio quits, or lights wont work, just pull over to the side of the road. Turn car off. Turn car back on. And you are good to go. Works every time with windows!

lol very true, just a quick reboot and good to go..... I believe they used an aftermarket body shell on a newer frame

I saw that show on TV. They did use an aftermarket Dynacorn body on a brand new chassis. They cut the new body off the frame and grafted in the old. It was pretty neat to watch. I could live without the technology, though.
