| My truck is holding first gear and shifts very ruff. IT also barely wants to move. yesterday i tried to go up a hill that was maybe 4 feet above the road and i had to back up and go around. The transmission fluid is not low so is this a sign that the tranny is going out? | |

| from the sound of it, since you said you couldn't make it up the hill. it sounds to me like the torque converter is bad. the reason i say that is that has happened to me before. i could rev the car in "D" and eventually it wouldn't even move.
as far as swapping to a manual. the best thing to do is find a vehicle in a junkyard just like yours except its a manual, and swap the parts over. Warning "some cutting, drilling and welding may be required"

| Thanks for the advice. Is there anyway to tell for sure? | |

| check the color of your transmission fluid. when ours went out, it was black/silver and there were metal shavings on the dipstick. | |

I switched the fluid and filter, the old fluid was dark brown almost black and had some shavings. I also changed the fuel filter and put some additive in it and the power is better but it still wont shift some times.
