PostSubject: Idea's for Morgan's Car.   Wed Jul 06, 2011 2:05 pm

Morgan has pm'd me and asked for me to help with giving her ideas on how to win car shows with her car and make it faster. To do both its going to take alot of money. I would say go with looking great at shows first, and then make it faster later. That way you can enjoy the looks of your ride and still have fun with it, cause this will be the cheaper of the two directions you could go imo. I have posted this as a way to keep track of parts/ect services I find that would help her, and if you have any input on what you think would look good post it up. These are just my opinions, and this is a drama free site. So please. No Drama. She has asked for help, please help if you can.

First off, I think you would need to decide what look your wanting.. Clean, Ricer, Import, WIdebody. What is it that you want?
I would go with this wide body kit if I had a TC.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The kit above is a wide body kit made by Rado Duraflex Dimensions. The kit retails for 2299, but you can get it here for 1799.00
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I would not use that wing above, (doesn't come with the kit anyways) and I would not use the factory hood used with this kit.

I would go with this hood.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Its made by Seibon, its full carbon fiber and looks awesome imo. I think it would turn heads. Which is what you want to do at shows, draw peoples attention to your car. Make it stand out and stay fresh in their mind when they are judging. The main thing is to be very clean, neat and no mess with your car. Everything needs to give the appearance its perfect. Judges eat that up.

Anyways, you can get the hood at this link for 629.00

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Then I would swap out the trunk lid for carbon fiber so that it would look like a two tone car, but when you get close, you see how sexy the carbon fiber would is.

I would use this trunk hatch/lid, and I would definately go with the same brand hood you use if your going carbon fiber, different brands make them different, you want the texture, size of the carbon fiber and stuff to match from the front to the back, so even if you dont go with this, if you do carbon fiber, make sure you like both ends of their products.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

699.99 from Seibon at this link [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I would not put a wing on it, I dont think you need one with that lid.

Now, I would add vertical doors, and keep in mind I am doing these mods in list of the way I would do them to your car.
Vertical doors are something you dont cheap out on and get an off brand. If they are not a reputable company, they will drag, not work correctly and scratch your paint. No pro's to junk... So get the good stuff. Once you have these installed, later you can get an fob to open them automatically and you never have to touch them to get in or out of the car. Pretty sweet huh. You would just need to make sure these will work with your widebody kit above. There might not be enough clearance.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Here is where you can get the automatic button for them, which would make you a big wowler at shows.

2199.99 for the automatic feature and hinges at this link.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Now onto your wheels. These are what I would go with, cause they are just pure sexy.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

You can find these here at this link for the cost of 1500.00 for four wheels and tires.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Now I would get new headlight housings here for 215.50
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And I would get these taililght housings and then tint them like my solstice lights, so you can still see through them, but they dont look chrome inside anymore. 170.00 at this link

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Then I would get new scion logos, loose the bling for the clean car look at have them black chromed.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] <-- Like this.

These are my opinions, but I think something along this route will make you a car show winner.

I wouldnt do anything but add that stuff above, all the little personalization things like stickers, bling, and extra colors take away from what judges are looking for. If you don't care what other people thing, then by all means go with it. But I think if you keep a really clean car, basically build the one in the widebody pic at the top. You will win shows.. and you will win lots of them.

No one does vertical doors anymore.... Im not a fan of sebon either.. I would look at another body kit as if you hit some say with the rear bumper it'll crack because it's so big. I know some one who has a charge speed body kit on their suby and they've hit things with it and it looks nasty..

i say go with looks before power if you want to win shows. style and appearance will win at a show before "1000hp and no exterior mods" does. keep using that aluminum flashing, you'll end up having the ricer look before long lol.

I think the mods you do depend on what you do with your car. If it's a daily driver going over the edge is extremely difficult. The thing you have to remember is with local shows its hard to be classified into a proper category. If winnning is your goal, the cleaner the better. I know many nice rides that lose at shows because of poor show prep (especially the engine bay and undercarriage). The same goes for the condition of your wheels, paint, etc. At a show you want things to be mint, no dings, paint chips, brake dust, etc. I've seen a number of lightly modified cars do well in shows just based on how well the car was presented and put together.

It's not so much how highly you modify your car, but how you bring your car together as a total package. You can definitely go extreme with wow factors, but at times it is not necessary. If you start competing on a larger national level you'll see that having one extreme modifcation and then subtlety throughout the car may put you in a class with heavily modified cars in which you can't compete.

Again, ask yourself what kind of goal do you want for your car. What kind of look you are going for, etc. Many times it is easier than you think because so many of us have our cars as an extension of our personalities. It's why you see some folks over the top with lots of chrome, or wild paint jobs, or others with a clean ride, nice drop and a set of wheels.

I see cars getting lambo doors all the time. But not once have I seen a automatic set at a show. That would be cool.

I do LOVE that I actually looked at that one b4 and its nice I just gotta remember its a daily driver so I dont wana hit a pot hole and break my car hehe.

You get what you pay for. I would not buy a 700.00 body kit. Our hood alone cost 1300.00 without labor, the fenders were 550.00, the rear diffuser was 500.00.. Thats 2350.00 for just that stuff, not counting the new headlight housings for 600.00 and the fog light housings for 100.00.. Im not bosting, so don't think that. I am just saying you get what you pay for. If you seperate your body kit and think of costs.. 150.00 front bumper, 150.00 back bumper, 150.00 per side (skirts) 100.00 for mounting hardware. Do you think it would be good quality? That would total 700.00.. and it wouldn't be very good stuff.

By all means, if that is something you want to do, do it. But if I were you.. I would buy quality stuff only once, rather than buying less expensive things more often.

If my budget was 700.00 I would buy a quality hood only right now, cause if you buy a 700.00 body kit, you will have to have it painted and then you will have to have it fitted. I doubt it will fit at that cost, only really high end stuff fit with no problems and bolt right up.
500.00 + for paint and fitting.. could be more than the cost of the kit.

I guess I gotta just look around more and mayb find a 1000 kit. lol do u think custom fiberglass body kit would just be like crazy expensive or maybe a little less than the one you picked out? I have about 30,000.00 in the solstice. They cost between 24 and 35,000.00 new depending on GXP or not.
I paid about 18,000.00 for the car in near mint condition with taxes and license used.. There are some things I see wrong I don't like, but most people don't notice them.

We never plan on selling the solstice, its paid off, and any car is a big hole that you dump money to and never get it back from if you take it to shows. You see people selling old trucks for 50,000.00 and stuff, thats probably coming close to breaking even if they didnt do all the work themselves. U could go the route of creating a replica TC rally/race car. THat would turn at ton of heads seeing a rally car rolling around town. WOuld look sweet.

Custom Fiberglass, unless you do it is going to cost more than mass produced stuff.
Your going to also have installation cost and painting in any kit you buy. Dont forget that. Plan on 500.00 to paint and install anything.

BTW, if you would have read the initial post you would see the body kit is made by DuraFlex. One of the best brands available.
The hood and hatch are Seibon, and they are not fiberglass, they are carbon fiber.

Carbon fiber does not crack. It shatters from extreme force.

yea i thinka rally car would look SaWeEtt!! :drooling: Thn I could still rock the ricer look by using like some legit japan bands or ricer only brands.

I mean I would totally totally dump money like that if I could get more help patching up from my trip to mexico awhile ago. Me n tyler got some flashing and did patch work but I need to drill and put actual metal on the other side to prevent the other side from messing up. Because I do plan on going back 2 mex again...

:serious: haah

and like I think if you were to ever decide to sell it you could get that back out its still show room quality in my opponion but i think its just that mine needs work for me to feel I can dump that into my car. Id like to even get like everything checked out to see what could b replaced so it has good like main pieces too. u know. keep him runnin well. I'm trying to do this all right tho. slow and get top quality.

Just have patience. Buy good quality stuff, and you will only have to buy it once. If it messes up after buying good stuff, its usually cause of you or someone else messed it up, not a failure on the products part.

I might come up to your meet, but we are eating at the Chinese buffet. U cant have me taking a [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] in the parking lot.
If we come up, we will take a look at your ride and see what looks like needs fixed, what we are capable of doing on a cheap budget. Roger is really good with this stuff. Get him to check your ride out. He is a pretty good fabricator of small parts/fixing problems.

they said I can do stuff as long as I keep the Origional or i doesn't mess up the car. like if I want lights like my old car has I need to go through them probably so it doesn't mess up anything. idk tho. I'll probably do mostly appearance again so it's not all kinda of money wrapped up in it just incase I don't want it at the end of my lease.
