What is generally cheaper to replace?

17, 18, 19, 20's?

I am going to get new wheels and tires for the F150. Probably going to go with a 2 inch leveling kit with springs and get 35's under it. Lots of trucks with that mod on the F150 forum and they look good. What size tires are generally cheaper in wheel size?

Truck has 17's on it currently and the tires are dry rotted with 300 miles on them and 3 years, and the wheels are stained.. so I need to upgrade both at the same time. ANy thoughts?

Generally cheaper to replace are 17's, also the best availability and priced. Although, you are gonna need more than a leveling kit and springs to clear 35's on a f150. Not to mention 35's are gonna stick out a TON and you'll prolly get hassled for not having fender flairs unless your gonna get those too. The reason for that is that, with a 35" tire you will have to use a heavy negative off set wheel to clear the control arms and suspension which will in turn push the tire out a good 2"+ passed the fender.

That being said, the most common up size for a leveling kit and springs is to a 17X8 or 8.5 with a +0 off set and a 285/70R17 tire, which measures out to 33x11". 33x12.50r17 could be possible, depending on suspension clearance with the extra width, and whether or not you're willing to trim body plastic and or molding.

This is what I am getting on the F150 forum as a common mod to trucks like mine.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

3 inch leveling kit and 35's x 12.50

35x12.50x17 KM2's on 17x9 Mickey Thompson Sidebiters. 2" leveling kit. Rubbed at full lock or if offroad

2 inch level with 35's (315/70-17) in stock 17 rims. Rubs slightly at full lock. Taken it into dunes, no rubbing noticeable.

Can you read that thread and tell me what you think? You know more than I do Aaron.
If it rubs a little, I am okay with it. U will understand the tire language more than me since you do that.

I like that first picture and the last one the best. I think if I were doing it, depending on what you were wanting to spend, I would go the last route. Slight rubbing wouldn't be bad unless your going to be in a situation where you would need the tight turning radius. Only then would I see that you would want a different rim with the offset necessary to stop the rubbing. Just my 2 cents!

Thats what I was thinking. The truck is only used to tow my boat. It doesnt get drove anywhere else unless I gotta haul an appliance.

This would be totally for show.

ok, you'll def have to go with the 3" to get the 35's. 2" won't be near enough. Some of those guys talked about the 2.5" kit, but I don't think I'd trust it, go 3". I think that'll look great, 3" with a 0 off set wheel should do the trick. Like I said, we'll prolly have to do some trimming.... most likely in the same spot as they were talking about... the lower black plastic on the bumper and inner corner of the inner fender well and possibly some on the mud flap, if you have them.

which after 3" and 35's you will also need to get a modified state insp sticker.... in which case, make sure you buy the correct fender flares so that the tires come up even with the edge of the flare. unfortunately, my shop can not do modified stickers. Bushwacker makes a pretty good product from what I hear.
